Design Glut is a lifestyle. It has been described as "ironic decadence." We like that. We make fun of consumerism. But we also design objects for you to consume.

Print out and glue to the sheet material of your choice. (Dollar sign looks backwards when mounted.)

Cut the pieces out.

Bend cone and tab together.

Bend flange on the bottom of dollar sign and push through top opening of cone.

Put your tree-topper
on a tree. Curate a sarcastic scene.

Photograph your masterpiece.

Upload your photo to our site and vote for the best in our gallery.

We designed these tree-toppers as a sign of the times. Then we thought, wouldn’t it be more fitting to give them away than to sell them? So here it is, the first DIY project from Design Glut.

But we’re not stopping there. We want to see what you’re going to do with it! We challenge you to hijack the traditional picture-perfect Christmas. We’re giving away prizes to those of you who curate a scene, photograph your masterpiece, and upload the photos
to our gallery.

The contest opens on December 1st, 2008, and closes on January 1st, 2009. Prizes will be sent out mid-January.

Photos must include the Big Money Tree Topper, in any location or context. You can make the tree-topper from any material and scale it to any size. We do HIGHLY RECOMMEND that you put it on a tree, as that's kind of the point, you know?

Individuals may only vote for each photo once. And you may only upload three photos. Don't be a cheater. Winners will be chosen by the ratings received on the website.

Design Glut reserves the right to remove any images that we deem offensive. (We're not easily offended, but you never know!) All images become property of Design Glut and may be published or reproduced if we really, really like them.

Have fun!

Thank you to to everyone who participated! Also, a big extra special thank you to the bloggers who helped to get the word out.
